Imports

ÍNDICE

Adding new contacts is very simple. To do this, go to Subscribers>>Imports.

The search engine at the top of the page allows you to filter previous imports (if you already have done so).

The system will offer three search modifiers: ID, Name contains and Created on - (to filter based on a date range). Next to them are the buttons to start the search, and Clear, which deletes the search filters created.

The results area shows a log of previous imports and uses four columns to display the information: ID, File name, Status (Finished or Processing), Finished on. Next to each import, there is a Show button that will display a brief summary of the import process.

Right between the search area and the results area is the +New import button, which is the button you should click to import contacts to your Mailrelay account.

This screen will allow you to access the three options available for adding your contacts to Mailrelay:

  1. Copy and paste , in which case you can copy the list directly into the dashboard.
  2. Upload files (.csv or .txt), in which case you must select the file containing your subscriber list; you can only use this option if you already have a .txt or .csv file.
  3. Import from Mailchimp, to transfer contacts directly from your Mailchimp account.

Let's take a look at each of these three options for importing contact lists and using them for email marketing campaigns.

How to format contacts for importing subscribers

To use the Copy and Paste option, as well as to upload files (.csv or .txt), you must learn how to format the list correctly.

Copy and Paste format

In this case, you only need to prepare a list with one email per line:

subscriber1@dominio.es
subscriber2@dominio.net
subscriber3@dominio.com
subscriber4@dominio.edu
subscriber5@dominio.com

And if you want to add more fields to each contact (in addition to the email address), you must add them on the same line as the email with the desired values and use a comma "," to separate them. For example:

Juan,subscriber1@dominio.es,Madrid David,subscriber2@dominio.net,Valencia Juana,subscriber3@dominio.com,Toledo Carmen,subscriber4@dominio.edu,Bogotá Walter,subscriber5@dominio.com,Acapulco

Format for uploading files (.csv or .txt)

The format is the same as explained above, but in this case you don't need to open the file and copy the data to Mailrelay, because when you tell the system where the txt or .csv document to be uploaded is located, the system imports it automatically.

name1@dominio.es name2@dominio.com name3@dominio.com name4@dominio.cl name5@dominio.com name6@dominio.es name7@dominio.net name8@dominio.edu name9@dominio.net

An example of a .txt/.csv document with the appropriate format would be:

David, name1@dominio.es Eva, name2@dominio.com Marc, name3@dominio.com Alex, name4@dominio.cl José, name5@dominio.com Sean, name6@dominio.es Robin, name7@dominio.net Batman, name8@dominio.edu Super, name9@dominio.net

You can import as many fields as you need, but remember that each subscriber must be on a single line and the fields must be separated by commas

1. Copy and paste

When you select the Copy and paste option, a central area opens where you should paste the contacts and then click on the IMPORT TXT button.

After that, the system takes you to the next window, where it checks whether the contacts include only one email field or more than one field and offers a preview of the data (if you want to change the field they will be associated with, just change the value in the drop-down menus in the Field column).

Now, in the Import to groups area, you can choose the group you want to import the contacts into by selecting it from the Groups drop-down menu, or you can create a new group for the list by clicking on New group and entering a name for the group under New group name.

Just below, in the Additional options area, indicate what you want to do with the contacts you are trying to import and which already exist in the Mailrelay database.

If you don't select the Update existing subscribers' data option, the contacts that already exist in your account will not be imported, as explained below:

If it is not checked, existing subscribers will be ignored and only new subscribers will be uploaded.

On the other hand, if you check the Update existing subscriber data option, the system will show you a new option called

How do you want to update existing subscriber groups? which in turn offers two possibilities:

  • Keeping the subscribers in their current groups and adding them to the newly selected groups. If you check this option, imported contacts that already exist in other groups will be kept in those groups and will also be added to the new group.
  • Remove subscribers from current groups and add them to the new selected groups. As the name suggests, this option will remove the corresponding subscribers from the groups they are already in and will add them only to the new group they were imported to.

Now, simply check the box: I declare that the imported data complies with GDPR (if applicable to my account) and international anti-spam regulations and have been verified by double optin, releasing Mailrelay from any liability for any damage, loss, liability, resolution or disbursement (including additional costs) arising from any claim or legal action if this is not the case.

Once you have checked that everything meets your requirements, click on Import. When the import is complete, the system will show you a summary of the import.

You can then check what has happened to each contact you have imported.

2. Import files (.csv or .txt)

Select Import .TXT or .CSV files and drag the file where you saved the contacts to the Drag file area or click here to select it and upload the file manually.

After that, the system analyzes the file and identifies the different fields present in it, to show you a preview of the fields; if you want to change the field they will be associated with, simply change the value in the drop-down menus in the Field column.

Now, in the Import to groups area, you can choose the group you want to import the contacts into by selecting it from the Groups drop-down menu, or you can create a new group for the database. If you want to create a new group, click on New group and enter the desired name for the group under New group name.

Just below, in the Additional options area, indicate what you want to do with the contacts you are trying to import that already exist in the Mailrelay database.

If you don't select the Update existing subscribers' data option, the contacts that already exist in your account will not be imported, as explained below:

Once you have checked that everything meets your requirements, click on Import. When the import is complete, the system will show you a summary of the import.

3. . Importing subscribers from Mailchimp

We've created a detailed tutorial in which you can see step by step the two ways we offer to Import Mailchimp contacts into your Mailrelay account.

4. How to view the subscribers registered on a specific group

To view a group's contacts, simply click on Subscribers>>Subscribers. In the search area, find the Groups option and click on it; the system will display a list of all the groups available in your account.

You then have to select a group (or several, if you want to see all the subscribers in several groups) and click on the

Search button to filter the lists based on the selected groups.

After that, in the results area, you will be able to see the contacts that belong to that group (or groups) and download them with just a few clicks, using the Export to CSV button.
