What are tags?
Tags allow you to track the stages or states a contact goes through. They're useful for creating sales funnels and recording contact activity.
You can assign tags through subscription forms or automations.
For example, you can assign the "Subscribed" tag to a contact when they sign up through a form, and change it when they start a funnel, click, or complete the funnel. This way, you can then filter by these tags and see which subscribers are at each stage of your sales funnel.
How to create tags
You can create tags in Subscribers—Tags menu

When you click 'Add', you get the option to enter a name for the tag and select a color to create the it:

These tags do not have any assigned value, they function as markers assigned to contacts so you can distinguish them.
Here you can see an example of a few tags:

These are:
- Subscribed
- Funnel started
- Funnel completed without a click
- Funnel completed with a click
But this is only a sample, you can create the tags you need in your Mailrelay account.
Adding a tag through a subscription form
You can do this in any Mailrelay form that you have.
Edit the form and go to the “Configuration” tab. There you will see a “Tags” input.
In the example we add the "Subscribed" tag to this form.
Any contacts that will subscribe using this form will be asigned this tag:

These tags can be changed later, adding more than one, or removing them.
Adding or modifing a tag through an automation
In the image below you will see how to add tags through the automation process:

In this example, at the end of the automation, it checks whether the contact clicked on a link.
A specific tag is applied to the "yes" branch, and a different tag to the "no" branch.
This will allow you to distinguish contacts in the filters of the Subscribers section, in Advanced Search, and in Segmentation.
In this way, you can differentiate contacts, even contacts within the same group, based on the actions they performed in an automation.
